well, my trip to Puerto Vallarta was a very interesting one. We did not expect to go out on a fishing charter or do any fishing at all once my family and i first arrived in mexico, that is until my step-dad and i were out on the beach and saw a huge school of baitfish being torn apart by some huge fish about 75 yards off the beach one morning, Yes, we both saw that and thought the exact same thing, we need to do some fishin! So we went and talked to the manager of the hotel and asked if he could hook us up with a good CHEAP fishing charter that would put us on some fish and give us a good day out on the water in mexico, and he assured us that he knew the right guy and to meet on the docks at 6 AM the following morning. So my stepfather and i got up and wandered down to the docks around the huge fishing bouts waiting for the guy to show up and we waited and waited until some dude in a little 20 foot dingy with what looked like a 25 horsepower motor on the back of it pulls up and calls our names. Much to our surprise, this was our fishing charter? What makes it even worse was the fact that we were fishing with rods no bigger than the rods i'd use for bass and small catfish? but he took us out in the boat and we fished around for small fish, small tuna (bonita) and such, caught about a dozen or so and at the end of the day the charter dude decided we troll around for a little while with some bigger bait on the lines. So we put some rather large needlefish on the lines and trolled around for a while until we heard one of the reels screaming like crazy! and about 100 yards behind us we see u huge sailfish soaring through the air and making a huge ruckus!! the little mexican charter started going crazy, not because he was excited, but because the damn fish decided to bite the bait one the smallest of the BASS RODS.. i swear this fishing rod was about the size of a normal fishing pole from wal-mart in the bass fishing section with a spinning reel. And i believe he had no more than 50lb test line on the damn thing. But he ordered me to grab the rod and for my stepdad to take charge of the boat, he tells my stepdad to just *** chase the fish around the ocean so we dont run out of line and for me to just hold onto the rod while he pulls the line in by hand???? so im sure we look like the biggest dumbasses chasing this 6ft fish around the ocean with a small mexican guy yelling out orders and im holding onto the bass rod for dear life. So after about an hour or so of chasing the fish around and tiring it out we get the thing up beside the boat and get our picture with it and such, the fish was almost bigger than the boat! But that was definately a very interesting experience., and well worth the money we paid, except for the fishing equipment and the boat. but we caught our fish and we all ended up happy in the end.
